Report from Etgare, by Hadas Morris
Shalom parents!
I hope you are all well!
This week for the etgar-niks began with an early morning kehila lesson consisting of football, and in many cases running away from the ball... etgar were split up in to two teams (red and blue) and with the help of a professional referee played our hearts out. The score ended with the blue team winning 4-1 (not forgetting that the red teams were down a player...). The day then moved on to a contemporary issues from a reform perspective lesson with Dina in which Chanukkah and Purim were discussed and the traditions with which we celebrate them and where they evolved from. Matan's class then went off for their Hebrew lesson, followed by lunch and a lesson with Mark Lazar! Ketty's class then went off to their Hebrew lesson which took place at her house with a viewing of the Hebrew film 'Noodle', which i am sure we all highly recommend!
Monday morning began with Hadracha class in which Sarah Walton and Hannah Goldstone ran their peulah on the Holocaust. All agreed that it was approached very well, full of sensitivity and very moving, a good base for future Holocaust peulot to be planned alike. Next, etgar moved off to our Zionism siyur with Mark to ammunition Hill and Tayelet Haas in which we learned about the 6 day war and the fight over Jerusalem with the Jordanians. We walked through the trenches and went through a museum showing Jerusalem before, during, and after being a divided city. All would agree it was a very successful siyur in which lots was learned. The evening was filled by an asefa, always enjoyed by all.
We all awoke to a spot of flat cleaning Tuesday morning and then moved off to Ivrit class. This was followed by a very interesting lesson with Patrick Amar. Next, people who are off to Karmiel for options had a meeting about what we can expects from our time there and the options of volunteering open to us, such as working in the Soup kitchen and with youth clubs. Yom Tnua then commenced, with a trip to the open house in Jerusalem and a talk from them about how they provide support and who they work with and the services that they offer.
Wednesday started with an early lesson in the flat with Mark Lazar about Israeli society and the different views of extremes of religion within Israel, and the ways this affects how the government may run accordingly. We also looked at some very interesting statistics on percentages of Jews within Israel and the certain Jewish traditions that they may / may not keep. We then got our packed lunches together and headed off on our siyur to Kibbutz Metzer where we learned about the history of the kibbutz and how the Jewish Kibbutz and Arab village manage to live side by side to each other peacefully, even more than peacefully, helping each other in many cases.
Overall etgar has had a great week and look forward to our coming Shabbat!
Shabbat Shalom to all

Report from Machon, by Sophie Vener
Machzor 121 went on a Tiyul, we traveled down South in a bus.
We picked some oranges, sang some tunes, and no one made a fuss.
We met the legendary Eshter, and saw Ben Gurion's grave.
It got real dark and some people got lost, so Haggai had to make a quick save.
We divided into ten tribes for the evening peulah.
Becca fell over in a tummy-bump accident and we all exclaimed hahaha.
Then Monday arrived with an early start, we set out on the big hike.
Up the Ramon Crater and then back down, it was easy breezy…psych.
We broke for lunch and got a lesson in geology.
The rock that bruised Sara's bum owes her an apology.
Tuesday we were off to the town of Dimona, to meet up with Eshter once more.
We saw Indian Jews and some Black Hebrews saw the contrast between the rich and the poor.
A beautiful night under the Negev stars, we sang and prepared a lovely feast.
Early the next morning we embarked on a hike that was nothing compared to the Ramon beast.
Everyone was excited for the three hour coach on our way to the red sea.
Right away we went snorkeling and I admit in the sea I did wee.
On Thursday we ventured all the way to meet the pioneers of the Arava.
We saw kibbutzim, moshavim, but before going home we stopped off to chill at a spa.
It was a great Tiyul, we played, we learned, and we sang the whole way through.
It is confirmed I love them all, the whole Machon crew
