Israel Tour update day 5

Dear Israel Tour Parent,

Tour 1, 2 & 3

All groups have rested and had a peachy group Shabbat in their respective hostels.

The madrichim ran an activity in the afternoon.

Then they went on a Shabbat walk in the afternoon. All Tours ended their Shabbat with a Havdala and Seuda Shlishit. (And a little more rest…).

In the evening, they went on a fascinating walk through the Kottel Tunnels.

Israel Tour Update day 4

Dear Israel Tour Parent,

JERUSALEM

Tours 1, 2 & 3

The groups enjoyed lunch in one of the most fascinating places to be in just before Shabbat, the famous Machane Yehuda Market!

In this one hundred year old marketplace one can purchase fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers; the smells of freshly baked breads, spices, cheeses, olives is absolutely mesmerizing (Jamie Oliver would be over the moon if he were there)...

Israel Tour Update day 3

Dear Israel Tour Parent,

JERUSALEM

Tour 1

Today the group headed for a poetic and picturesque tour of the Yamin Moshe Quarter were they followed in the footsteps of one of Israel’s greatest poets, Yehuda Amichai. Established in 1891, Yamin Moshe and Mishkenot Sha'ananim, is a humble quarter of stone houses and narrow alleyways perched on a hill a stone's throw away from the westernmost of the Old City's walls.

Later today the madrichim have prepared an adventurous street game as well as a photography game to be played in Rechavia, a famous part of Jerusalem, which home to David Ben Gurion, the first Israeli prime minister in 1948.

In the evening the group will be introduced to the magical and at times complex mish mash of Israeli society, as they will visit various Jerusalem neighbourhoods. Part of the visit will be to explore the diversity within the State of Israel, focusing on two particular Jewish groups, the Charedim (ultra-orthodox) and the Chilonim(secular).

Israel Tour Update day 2

Dear Israel Tour Parent,

Tour 1

After a very good night sleep at Leonardo Inn Hotel in Jerusalem, which included getting to know the Israeli madrichim and chanichim, the tours had an introduction about the next few weeks by the madrichim.  This was followed by the Rakaz’s (coordinator in Israel) “scary” rules and regulations talk.

Later in the morning the tours had an orientation by Madrichim. The first hike of the Tour was in the Jerusalem hills as the group went to the Halilim Stream in the Jerusalem Hills. This particular hike is known for its beautiful and adventurous caves.
